I'm Bobbie Jo Jordan, founder of FemPowered Physiques. I am an educator of 25 years, mother, wife, flower lover and fitness enthusiast! My 12+ year fitness journey has turned into a passion. My Story
My journey into fitness began over 12 years ago. I was a young mother of 3, working full time as a Kindergarten teacher. The days were always busy, often stressful and my health took a backseat. I was overweight, always tired and had a lot of negative self-talk. Often we would run through a drive-thru, sometimes out of necessity and often out of bribery encouraging the kids to get out the door in the mornings. I would try to make changes, but failed time and time again. I had home workout equipment and even joined a gym, but life kept getting in the way.
One evening I responded to an ad for a small, local gym. I had a long conversation with the owner and knew I had to make some sacrifices if I was going to take charge of my health. I attended classes 3 days a week in the beginning. It was hard, I felt so weak and out of place, but I had made a commitment to myself and I was unwilling to give up again. It didn't take long to start seeing real progress because I was finally consistent.
What started as a 3 day a week workout schedule soon turned into passion. I've worked with multiple trainers in both functional fitness and Crossfit. I developed habits that allowed me to focus on making healthy food choices and gave myself the time I needed to get to the gym.
2 years ago I had a shoulder injury that required surgery. I was devastated; I couldn't imagine not working out every day. The recovery was the most challenging task, both physically and mentally. I knew I couldn't return to Crossfit, but I was determined to do something! I joined a public gym and slowly started building my strength back. I also started experiencing the hormonal changes associated with peri-menopause. What had worked before was now not as effective. I had to learn a new way to train.
Today I can confidently say I have found the key to making the right changes for my body. Shifting the way I train, being more aware of the demands being put on my body and discovering ways to balance my hormones have led the best shape of my life!
